All I Wanted to do was Clean the Microwave
Life is starting to normalize, or the way I see it, we are leaving their houses and getting back to their lives as they were BC (Before Covid). Traffic is back to sucking and our schedules are back to being full. What happened to our lives where we were trapped at home? When everyone was on “lock down” we were kinder, more creative, more productive, and maybe a little nuttier. But things changed – again – offices opened back up and we are leaving our homes for public spaces again. We are learning to live WC (With Covid) where we work from home, work in the office, work 24 hours a day and can’t hide within a lock down.
Like a lot of people, I still work from home a couple of days a week and then go into the office several days a week. The difference is I have less time and energy to clean, get house chores done, exercise, or even cook.
Now, I just want to come home from work – or leave my home-office – eat dinner and relax. Honestly, all I wanted to do when I got home from work the other day was warm up dinner and relax. But when I opened the microwave, I saw two weeks of food bits and sauce splashes clinging for life to the sides of the microwave. And it’s not even a freaking microwave, it is a speed oven, so it is stainless steel and a complete pain in the ass to clean.
All I wanted to do was clean the Microwave. I walked into the laundry room to get the step ladder (I’m really short and the microwave / speed oven is installed really high). When I walked into the laundry room, I see cat litter all over the floor. I keep the step ladder in the laundry room along with the litter box and cat food, all trapped behind a baby gate to keep the dogs out. The dogs think of the laundry room as the “snack hut”. So, I start sweeping up the cat litter when I realized my poor kitty had explosive diarrhea in his litter box. Thankfully it is one of those kitty boxes with a lid, so “it” was contained.
Anyway, I’m in the laundry room to clean up after the cat, and as I am getting everything together to empty the litter box, I realize there are wet clothes in the washer that need to be put in the dryer. Ah, you probably guessed by now, there are clothes in the dryer too. Of course, there are! So, I take the clothes out of the dryer, fold them, thankfully it was a load of towels and not socks, put the wet clothes in the dryer, and start my kitty box cleanup.
Kitty box cleanup requires a new liner and litter and a large trash bag. Once that is organized, I take the trash out, fortunately I have shoes on. I get back in the house and start my grocery list with 1. Kitty litter, 2. Kitty litter box liners and 3. Floor cleaner. Last, I make sure the cat is still alive.
Now that the laundry is done, the floor is cleaned, the litter box is cleaned, the cat is alive and the grocery list is started, I walk back to the microwave and realize I forgot the step ladder. And really all I wanted to do was come home from work and relax, but I had to clean the microwave! Does this happen to you in our new WC era?
